We are excited to share that we have been awarded a grant from the Christian Doppler Research Association’s Transfer.Science to Spin-off program – an initiative focused on advancing innovative research projects toward commercialization. The project “watER dyes – The hydrothermal synthesis of fluorescent dyes” focuses on a new class of fluorescent dyes, which are synthesized hydrothermally using only hot water – a cost-efficient and environmentally friendly process. Frederic and Frank attended the 10th European Summer School on Electrochemical Engineering (ESSEE2025), promoted by the Italian Association of Chemical Engineering (AIDIC) and hosted in Cagliari, Italy. The program covered a wide range of electrochemical topics, including fundamentals, fuel cells, electrolyzers, and batteries. During their stay, Frederic and Frank took a deep dive into electrochemical engineering topics and expanded their knowledge through lectures and discussions with experts in the field, complemented by a visit to the Sotacarbo Sustainable Research Centre. Miriam was recently selected as the new spokesperson of the Fraunhofer – Network for Science, Art and Design (Fraunhofer – Netzwerks Wissenschaft, Kunst und Design). The network serves as a catalyst where science and art interact – unlocking creative synergies and amplifying the social impact on both fields. By fostering dialogue between researchers, artist, and designers, it paves the way for innovative approaches and relevant contributions to today’s challenges. [Read more]

From September 8–12, Celine and Hannah took part in the AiMat Summer School Machine Learning for Materials, hosted in Karlsruhe, Germany. Celine presented her PhD research on the development of an automated platform for the preparation and characterization of polyimide coatings. Hannah contributed with a poster presentation on her PhD work, focusing on an automated platform for optimizing flow chemical reactions based on green metrics. [Read more]

We are pleased to share that Celine presented the poster “Controlled Crystallization and Morphological Studies of All-Organic Salt Particles” at the 6th International School on Aperiodic Crystals, held  September 1-5, 2025 in Dresden (DE). The event, organized by the Max Planck Institute for Chemical Physics of Solids, provided a valuable opportunity for productive discussions and personal exchange among colleagues and experts in a casual setting. We are happy to welcome Giulia Sinesi to our team. Giulia studied chemistry at the University of Como (IT) and is currently pursuing her PhD at Milano-Bicocca University (IT). She joined the group in September 2025 for a research internship, where she explores sustainable treatments on different materials for cosmetic applications. [Read more]

We are proud to share that “Selective chemical recycling of polyhydroxybutyrate into high-value hydroxy acid using the taurine organocatalyst” has been published in Chemical Science, as part of the themed collection “15th anniversary: Chemical Science community collection“. This publication describes an innovative method for selectively recycling polyhydroxybutyrate (PHB), a biodegradable bioplastic, using naturally occurring taurine as an organocatalyst. [Read more]
