Frank and Alonso participated in the International Conference on Sustainable Chemistry for Net Zero (ICSC-NZ) in St. Andrews, UK, an international meeting focused on advancing green chemistry and sustainable solutions for a low-carbon future. Alonso contributed to the Sustainability and Circularity session with a flash talk titled “Commercial Polyester Depolymerization through Hydrothermal Techniques”, where he showcased how hydrothermal conditions can effectively recycle polyesters and how this approach can be evaluated in terms of green chemistry metrics. We are proud to announce that Fabián has successfully defended his PhD thesis at University of Konstanz, marking a major academic and scientific milestone. Fabián’s thesis entitled “High-Temperature water as reaction medium towards heteroaromatic compounds and contributions to assess chemical greenness”, explored the synthesis of small molecules featuring optical properties using benign reaction conditions.  [Read more]

Miriam  gave the opening address at the Joint Symposium on Nanotechnology hosted by Fraunhofer Institut and the German Federal Institute for Risk Assessment (BfR) and gave a talk on materials acceleration for sustainable nanomaterials. Jessica spent two weeks in the research group of Dr. Guillermo González-Rubio at the Universidad Complutense de Madrid, in Madrid, Spain. During her stay Jessica was able to perform ultra-fast laser experiments and optoelectronic characterization of quantum dots. We are thankful to Dr. González-Rubio for hosting Jessica! [Read more]

After joining our group at the University of Konstanz in 2021, Elana has been an essential part of the UnterlassLAB, investigating co-crystals for sustainable materials and managing PXRD and SAXS equipment. She also served as one of our radiation protection officers. As our group transitioned to the University of Würzburg, Elana moved to new challenges in the Student Lab. [Read more]

Miriam gave her first lecture at the Julius Maximilian University of Würzburg (JMU) for the Bachelor program Functional Materials. In addition to the participants of this lecture, a class of the high school Bertha-von-Suttner-Gymnasium of Neu-Ulm joined us as part of a visit they did at the Chair of Chemical Technology of Materials Synthesis. As of mid-April, all scientific equipment and samples of the UnterlassLAB have been successfully transferred from the University of Konstanz to the Julius Maximilian University of Würzburg.
