Hipassia’s first author publication “Green Hydrothermal Synthesis Yields Perylenebisimide-SiO2 Hybrid Materials with Solution-Like Fluorescence and Photoredox Activity” just appeared online (open access) in J. Mater. Chem A! We show that dye-metal oxide hybrid materials can be generated, with covalent linking of the components, in one pot in solely hot water. [Read more]

Our latest publication “Synthesis of 2,3-Diarylquinoxaline Carboxylic Acids in High-Temperature Water” just appeared (open access) in Synthesis. We performed a detailed parameter study finding that quinoxaline carboxylic acids suffer from decarboxylation when hydrothermally synthesized, and how this side-reaction can be avoided. Congratulations to first author Fabián! Our latest publication “Clickable Cisplatin Derivatives as Versatile Tools to Probe the DNA Damage Response to Chemotherapy” just appeared (open access) in Frontiers in Oncology. In collaboration with Joanna Loizou’s lab we report click-able cis-platin derivatives can be employed as tools to investigate the repair of DNA crosslinks. [Read more]

We very warmly welcome our three new team members Daniel Block, Suman Chandra, and Robert Pazdzior, who all join us as postdocs. Daniel will be working with novel polymer materials and their processing, and Rob will work on the exploration of new hydrothermal syntheses at the University of  Konstanz. Suman joins us in the framework of CeMM’s Pre-ERC Postdoc Program in Vienna and will be working on the microwave-assisted hydrothermal synthesis of covalent organic frameworks for biomedical applications. We are very happy to have contributed to the Austrian pavilion at Expo 2020 Dubai! The electron microscopy images of sand taken by Hipassia are projected onto sand sculptures in the pavilion.
