Olivier Gazil

Olivier holds a BSc and M. Sc. A. in chemical engineering from Polytechnique Montréal, Canada. During his BSc, he carried out several research internships in the field of soft condensed matter with Prof. Nick Virgilio. He continued with his MSc under the supervision of Prof. Virgilio focusing on in-situ synthesis of metallic nanoparticles in hydrogels. In August 2018, Olivier was awarded a MITACS Globalink Research Award to support a 6-months research internship in our group.

In August 2019, Olivier started with a highly collaborative PhD project at Polytechnique Montréal  under the supervision of Prof. Nick Virgilio, Dr. Fabienne Gauffre, Prof. Basil D. Favis, and Prof. Miriam M. Unterlass. His research project focuses on the synthesis and immobilization of noble metal nanoparticles onto various soft matter supports. Between August 2021 and July 2022, he worked at the ISCR in Rennes with Dr. Fabienne Gauffre on Ouzo emulsions. In September 2022, Olivier re-joined our group to perform a 10-month research stay to explore the hydrothermal synthesis of inorganic-organic hybrid materials.
