Marwan Simaan (Saman)

Marwan SimaanMarwan obtained his BSc in Chemistry from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, Israel (2009). In 2011 he joined the group of Professor Ilan Marek at the Technion-Israel Institute of Technology for his direct PhD track, where he focused on the Diastereo- and enantioselective preparation of polysubstituted cyclopropanols, cyclopropylamines and aldehydes bearing α- all carbon quaternary stereogenic center. During his studies, Marwan took part of a collaboration with the Shi group at the SIOC (Shanghai institute of organometallic chemistry, Shanghai, China). After successfully defending his PhD, Marwan joined the group of Prof. Nuno Maulide at the University of Vienna, Austria, for a one-year postdoc focusing on asymmetric catalysis. Marwan joined us in June 2019 as postdoctoctoral researcher in the framework of the WWTF (Vienna Science and Technology Fund) project “3C – The cellular color chart” in cooperation with the Superti-Furga Lab and the Kubicek Lab at the Research Center for Molecular Medicine of the Austrian Academy of Sciences (CeMM). In his project, Marwan focuses on efficient synthesis of de novo dyes for cell staining.
